Export deliveries to non-EU countries are exempt from VAT. If persons taking part in an auction take goods they have bought there to non-EU countries themselves, VAT will be reimbursed as soon as E N G E L  FINE ART AUCTIONS has received verification of the export and the buyers identity. Export deliveries within the EU are exempt from VAT with VAT ID Nos..

Ivory, rhinoceros, tusks, tortoise etc. are governed by the Washington Agreement for the Protection of Endangered Species of 1976 and by the Federal Nature Protection Act. Trade of art objects that are made of such materials is only allowed with a Cites Certificate (Note of the translator: “Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species”). This certificate is required when products made of ivory or of any other protected species are exported into any third nations outside of the European Union or are imported from such a nation. For the trade within the EU, a Cites certificate is not required; however, there are other limitations on co-operative marketing. According to Paragraph 32, letter d, of the EU Regulation of Implementation 939/97 in connection with Article 2, letter w of the EU Regulation 338/97, other art objects including musical instruments, that were manufactured more than 50 years ago prior to the date when the regulation became effective - that is, prior to June 1st, 1947 - with the exception of the otherwise valid prohibitions of co-operative marketing. The authorities for the Protection of Nature are issuing for more recent objects from protected species certificates of co-operative marketing if the legal origin of the objects can be proven.
